Wear Red Wednesday!

Please join the Core Ideology Committee in our last event of the month by wearing red this Wednesday to support a healthy heart and you will get a fresh, healthful treat!

Although significant progress has been made in increasing awareness among women that heart disease is their #1 killer (from 34 percent in 2000 to 69 percent in 2009) most fail to make the connection between its risk factors and their personal risk of developing heart disease. In fact, this disease kills one out of every four American women. Join The Heart Truth campaign on Wednesday, February 24th.

The Heart Truth created and introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 to deliver an urgent wake-up call to American women. The Red Dress® reminds women of the need to protect their heart health, and inspires them to take action.

While heart disease risk begins to rise in middle age, heart disease develops over time and can start at a young age, even in the teen years. It's never too early, or too late, to take action to prevent and control the risk factors for heart disease. The Heart Truth is building awareness of women's heart disease and empowering women to reduce and prevent their risk. It is reaching women with important heart health messages in community settings through a diverse network of national and grassroots partner organizations.

The Heart Truth campaign is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in partnership with The Office on Women's Health (OWH) and other groups committed to the health and well-being of women.

Football Squares!

For those of you enjoying the big game this Sunday, we are adding a little more excitement to your afternoon by having a game of football squares.

Here are the rules:

Within the grid, the top row of numbers represents the last digit of the possible points scored of the Indianapolis Colts and the left column represents the New Orleans Saints score.

The object of game is to have the combination of numbers that match the last numbers in the score of the game. Winners are based on the score of each team at the end of each quarter. Please note that the digit used is always the second number. For example, if a team has 17 points at the end of the quarter, the 7 is used to determine the winner.

Each person has six squares, so they have six chances to win. Winners will receive a prize at our next staff meeting.

We ended up with four extra squares, so those are given to each program. If a program wins a quarter, their entire group will receive a casual dress pass (signed by Terry, of course).

We hope you en"joy" watching the game this weekend. Good luck!
